Brixenbach 17, 6364 Brixen im Thale
Tirol, Österreich
The Achensee is a lake which was formed naturally through glacial erosion and the largest of all the Tirolean lakes - 9 kilometres long and 1.3 kilometres in breadth, 133 metres deep at its deepest point. The lake's water is of a purity equal to drinking water and is freely accessible all summer long.
Since 1889, the oldest rack railway locomotives in the world connect Jenbach with the Achensee lake. The 7 km long line has a maximum gradient of 1:62 and train take just 45 minutes to reach the pier at Seespitz.
In 1887, the abbat of the Benedictine monastery at Fiecht hat the pioneering idea of running boats on the Achensee lake. Cruising on the lake on one of these boats while enjoying the gastronomic service is a special experience.
